FLOW welcomed new operations manager Meagan Walters to our team in early December.
Meagan is a skilled communicator, collaborator, and administrator who possesses a love of learning and has previously engaged the public on matters of great personal and financial importance while advancing at Hagerty Insurance Agency in Traverse City. Meagan earned a bachelor of science degree in psychology from Michigan Technological University, and also just completed an associate’s degree in freshwater studies at Northwestern Michigan College. She also recently obtained a Master Herpetologist certificate.
Meagan’s deep interest and commitment to clean water is demonstrated not only by her studies, but also by her experiences, including as the former president of the Grand Traverse Freshwater Society and prior internships monitoring water quality for the Long Lake Association in Traverse City and providing environmental education to the public at the Grass River Natural Area in Bellaire.
Her primary duties at FLOW include financial and technology management, board and staff support, and general office management.
We asked Meagan about her love for water.
What connected you to the Great Lakes: Growing up in this area I spent much of my time on the beach, in the woods, or at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. It was not until later in life when I began to travel to other parts of the country that I realized how special the Great Lakes, and the regions they define, truly are.
Favorite place in Michigan: The Keweenaw Peninsula, the further North I am, the better.
What’s a fun fact about you: Lake Superior contains half of all the Great Lakes’ water.
