FLOW (For Love Of Water) is an action-oriented non-profit partnership working to leverage river trips for the promotion of sustainable economic development which affirms the local natural and cultural heritage.

Originally organized as a collaboration with the Chinese government and an international advocacy organization interested in assessing the feasibility of locally owned and operated river-based tourism in northwest Yunnan, China, FLOW has evolved into an independent organization.

Our hope - to leverage our experience and expertise as guides, to extend our connection to a place beyond an insular journey traveling through it, to weigh in on relevant local issues, effect change, and share our experiences - was inspired by our first three months together in northwest Yunnan in the winter of 2002-2003. We were all struck by the challenge of reconciling the often disparate objectives of conservation and development, and by the unique position the guiding and boating community is in to advance such initiatives at home and abroad.

Our goals, like our resources, remain modest; our most important bank is our ongoing belief in the unforeseen consequences of engagement and participation, that not knowing exactly what will happen includes every reason to get involved.
